Well, I think the reason so many mansions are haunted(meaning the older mansions), is because they enbody so much of our country's history, especially the ones on the east coast, with their Indepence and Civil War history, not to mention the war of 1812. Those periods being so tramatic would easily produce many hauntings. The 'high life' of those who could afford mansions were often just as dramatic as those of the poor farmer. Child birth was a gamble, life was a chore, and the law wasn't as consistant(nor as correct as they are now. The Salem witch trials are proof of that.). All one has to do, in order to see how easy it would be to create a haunted house out of a mansion from that Civil war era, would be to watch "Gone with the Wind", which displayed the truth of that period in many ways. Okay, I think I'm done rambling now... maybe....
