1996 Yule Ritual
Zephyr
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Statement of Intent Since the beginning of time we have gathered in this season To celebrate the rebirth of the Sun. On the Winter Solstice - the darkest of nights The Goddess becomes the Great Mother And once again gives birth to the Sun Beginning the yearly cycle anew Bringing new light and hope to all the World. On the longest night of winter Flares the spark of hope The Sacred Fire, The Light of the World, We gather here to welcome the new light. As we join the Goddess in greeting the new Sun We also welcome the new light within ourselves.
Calling the Quarters and Casting the Circle Hail guardians of the east, spirits of Air, powers of Thought I call you to lend your essence to this rite and protect us from all negativity from the east.
Hail guardians of the south, spirits of Fire, powers of Will I call you to lend your essence to this rite and protect us from all negativity from the south.
Hail guardians of the west, spirits of Water, powers of Emotion I call you to lend your essence to this rite and protect us from all negativity from the west.
Hail guardians of the north, spirits of Earth, powers of Stability I call you to lend your essence to this rite and protect us from all negativity from the north.
I conjure ye O Circle of Light to be a temple between the worlds In the name of the Silver Lady and the Golden Lord. Wherefore do I bless and consecrate thee, So Mote It Be
Invocation Lady, you who are the beauty of the snowy earth and the white moon among the stars the mystery of the waters the desire in the heart of humanity We invite to you to come among us and attend this rite, for you are the soul of nature that gives life to the universe.
Lord, You who are the freedom of the wild things the bright sun that lights the day the mystery of the forest The resolve in the heart of humanity We invite you to come among us and attend this rite, for you are the body of nature who gives life to the universe.
Meditation The old solar year has run it'its course and completed it'its cycle. So to have some of our habits or traits completed their cycles and outlived their usefulness. This is a time for shedding that which is no longer needed. Take a few moments now to consider which things you would leave behind as you go into the coming year. (pause) As the old year dies away so to will these old ways will fade into memory.
In the beginning we came from the darkness of the womb. There we were created, nourished and prepared for our birth into the light. Within us, we still carry that fertile darkness. there we hold the seeds of hopes and dreams to come. There we nourish are hopes for love, joy and peace for all. We shield these tender roots until they are strong enough to come forth and flourish in the light. Spend a little time now tending these creations to come. Name them, nurture them for they will grow with you and bloom in the coming year. (pause) As the sun strengthens above, so will our new ways grow.
Reading We light this candle for the infant Solstice Sun One small flame to pierce the darkness A ray of hope A symbol of the Light within us all Light that can never be extinguished Light that will grow in glory Waxing strong, despite the cold to come Light that dispels despair and resignation Giving us a glimpse of golden days ahead
Behold the light that can never die Reborn anew in the Solstice Sky!
Chant Think of those who you would send positive energy to: Loved ones perhaps, those in need of healing or added strength. Perhaps people who's names you do not know, who are living with war or hunger. You may wish to focus on that which important to you, your values, Perhaps the earth itself, or the animals who share it with us Whatever it is you wish to send your healing energy to. As we chant we will build the our energy with the turning of the wheel. As you chant feel the energy of change resonate within you.
When I stop the chant, visualize the positive energy bursting forth, like the sun coming out from behind a thick cloud, and imagine strong rays of streaking out, empowering your wishes, and carrying your healing thoughts to their targets.
Hoof and horn, hoof and horn All that dies will be reborn Corn and grain, corn and grain All that falls will rise again
Blessing of Cakes and Wine This food and wine is the blessing of the Goddess and God to our bodies. Let us partake in it freely. As we share, let us remember to share what we have with those who have nothing.
Releasing Thank you, Goddess of the Moon for attending these rites in your honor, and for sharing with us your gifts of compassion and wit. Hail, and farewell.
Thank you, God of the Sun for attending these rites in your honor, and for sharing with us your gifts of freedom and rejuvenation. Hail, and farewell.

Two Ritual Prayers
Anahita-Gula
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Copyright 1991 Anahita-Gula (pseud.). May be reproduced with acknowledgment.
We clean this night our altar and our room To build our Temple. Here then, we have spread The pentacle, athame and the broom, With God and Goddess candles at the head. So dress we now our Priestess in her Crown: The Circle's cut in perfect Trust and Love. So call the Quarters, dance the Witches' Round And beckon down the Moon from high above.
Sept. 1987. Another sample: this one is sung to the "Witches' Rune":
(Introduction is spoken, as an Invocation)
"Indeed, they occupy the throne room together. In the divine chamber, the dwelling place of joy, Before them their gods take their places. To their utterances their attention is turned."
From the Akkadian Hymn to Ishtar. Lord of Sun and Lady Moon, Dark at night and bright at noon, See my off'ring, hear my call: Lord and Lady, guard us all.
Sky-God An, Earth-Goddess Ki, All do honor unto thee. Spread your seed upon the ground, Bring forth life fecund and round.
Holy Queen of living things, She whose bloom the summer brings, Bless us, Lady, give us cheer As we wander through the year.
Royal Shepherd, Mountain King Lofty Bull of whom we sing, Fill our bowls with waters sweet, Spread the seeds of corn and wheat.
Bless our lips and bless our breast, Guide us gently to our rest. Bless our sheep and bless our corn, Ease our grief when we must mourn.
Sing the song and join the rite, Praise the day and bless the night. Thank the Gods for what They bear: Earth and Water, Fire and Air.

Air Meditation
(taken from the WICCA echo on Sun 24 Jan 93 22:17) Charis
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is dawn. I find myself in a forest filled with Aspen trees. I raise my eyes and look for the sky, but the boughs looming overhead hide it from my view. As I look up, feel the cool breeze of spring brush my face, and hear the sound of the rustling leaves. Blowing, laughing from the east, Eurus brings thoughts of renewal and life. I follow the wind further into the soft shadows of the forest, inhaling deeply the strong scent of the trees. I smell, too, the wafting hints of fragrant incense. I follow where my senses lead me and come to a small clearing circled by burning censers filled with sweet-smelling oils. Toward the east end of the circle is a staff. I walk over to the place and sit on the ground before it. I take the staff into my hands and close my eyes. First come swirling colors of white then yellow then fading darker into lavender. Then, out of the swirling fog of colors come dozens of small, lithe figures who swirl around as if carried on the wind itself. They dance around my head and body, swirling around as if caught in a dance to unheard music. Then, taking my attention from the spirits of the air, I look up to find further figures emerging from the mist. First comes a woman with the beauty of the dawn. As she steps forward, each of the four winds, in turn, hasten from around here and fly, one to each of the four corners of the earth. As she fades, there comes another whose form seems insubstantial, and seems to constitute both the image of a woman and a cow at the same time. I look closely the attempt to solidify one form, but I cannot. As this image fades, I am presented with the forms of two women who immediately remind me of the nighttime sky. One glows with the pale light of the full moon, and her eyes hold the fullness of hidden knowledge. The other, whom also seems to radiate cool starlight, seems to embody the possibilities of many lifetimes. In due course, these figures too fade and I am left with only the mist of the elemental world of air. Suddenly, three male figures issue from the mist. They seem to be three aspects of one man, but each's attributes differ. The first glows with the light of the moon, seeming to be its protector. The second and third appear almost identical, except that one has a winged helmet and shoes. As I sit and study the sameness and difference of the three, they begin to fade, as does the fog. When the mist clears, I find myself sitting within the circle still clutching the staff in my hands. I place the staff once again on the ground and rise. I thank the element of air, and all it is associated with for sharing with me its wisdom, and leave the circle.

Banishing and Casting Merry Meet, The following is a method of banishing and casting which I find very useful, and helps me focus and stabilize. I suggest familiarizing yourself with the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram if you haven't already. It's a huge part, and a huge help. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Begin by facing the east, standing with your weight leavied equally on both legs. Imagine yourself being almost ant-sized, surrounded by all of the things which surrounded you before, however, only gigantic as compared to your ant-like mass. Take all of this in, the feeling you may receive when realizing your size. Once accustomed to this, imagine the love of the Goddess/God filling you, causing you to grow slowly, to your normal size, only the growing doesn't stop there. Visualize yourself continuing to grow until you out grow the room/building/area, until you are standing on top of the world. At this point, with your athame, or index finger, while surrounded by the billions of stars, focus on one star in particular..a star which should call to you, be it a part of a constellation, or a star which seems to have its own individuality. The other stars should soon disappear as you draw the light toward you, or as the star itself moves towards you, towards your athame/index finger/what have you. With this, draw the energy, the silvery light into the athame/what have you, and begin the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram. The Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram begins with the Qabalistic Cross, then the initial banishing. The Kabbalistic Cross begins by bringing the silvery energy, the light, with the athame/finger/etc, to your forehead, and vibrate the word, ""Ah-teh,"" until you run out of breath. Imagine the sound, the reverberations filling inside, and without, somewhat akin to surround sound. Continue by bringing the finger/athame/etc down in front/to your genital region, and utter the word "Malkuth," (Mal kooth). Once again, concentrate on the Silvery energy, add violet if it helps. Bring your athame/etc to your right shoulder and resonate "Veh-geburah," then to your left shoulder, murmuring, "Veh-gedulah,"" then clasp your hands in front of you and resonate ""Le-Olam"" After this, vibrate on a syllable/note which feels most comfortable to you. Take your Athame and draw the banishing Pentagram of earth to the East and, bringing the Athame to the center of the Pentagram, vibrate the deity name -- YOD HE VAU HE -- imagining that your voice carries forward to the East of the Universe. Holding the Athame out before you, go to the South, make the Pentagram and vibrate similarly the deity name -- ADONAI. Go to the West, make the Pentagram and vibrate EHEIEH. Go to the North, make the Pentagram and vibrate AGLA. Return to the East and complete your circle by bringing the point of the Athame to the center of the first Pentagram. Stand, in the center of the circle, with arms outstretched in the form of a cross and say: BEFORE ME STANDS RAPHAEL BEHIND ME GABRIEL AT MY RIGHT HAND MICHAEL AT MY LEFT HAND URIEL BEFORE ME FLAMES THE PENTAGRAM AND ABOVE ME SHINES THE SIX-RAYED STAR. ((Naturally, the Archangels can be interchanged with whatever deities/spirits/watchtowers you feel more comfortable with.)) Continue by repeating the Kabbalistic Cross. Long yet? Now that the initial Banishing is set, create your circle/sacred space by walking in a counter-clockwise direction three times. Using whatever oils/salts you're familiar with, (I work best with Jasmine and Amber, though Patchouli makes a nice substitue, then again with salts, any salt, even kitchen will serve it's purpose.) walk around once, casting droplets of oil about the circle. Once you've completed the circle, walk around with the Salt, then again with the other oil. After this, Start East, walking counterclockwise. You may wish to use Candles to illuminate each point as in N/S/E/W, however begin by facing the East, stating what the East means to you, and how the element/herbs/whatever makes you feel comfortable/ of the east intertwines with life. Once you've done this, walk around in a complete circle, counter-clockwise direction, until you get to the North, then repeat the process, walking in a complete circle until you get to the west, then the south, then arrive back at the east, making a comment about protection, or how each element combines with the other. Your space is cleansed, a circle is cast, and you are ready to begin. Lady Kerawynn ICQ: 264870005

Bardic Beltaine
The White Bard
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The BARD should stand to the WEST, unless otherwise specified in the ritual.
Materials:
One cauldron, filled with water a wreath of flowers for the MAIDEN the Maiden should wear white, if possible two wooden swords (optional) a fire, as close to the ground as possible A BARD/GREEN MAN (note: if you have no Bard, then a male to act as Green Man should be chosen either by lottery, or by the Maiden. The Maiden is, of course, free to request a specific person to act as Green Man even if there is a Bard available to the coven.) candles for all, if possible The place of ritual should be set up, away from the gathered participants.
It is more than a good idea to manage bathrooms and such like before the circle is closed. This Mystery is not something any of the participants should miss out on!
HPS: Go we now to the sacred place And stand within the sacred space Turn your minds to sacred things And dance with me unto the ring!
HP and HPS lead the coven to the place of ritual by a spiral dance, ending in a circle around the altar. The cauldron should be at the south. The Bard/Green Man dances at the end of the line.
HPS Come we forth, with the Spiral Dance Within the Lady's radiance To celebrate the Year renewed And praise the Powers, with gratitude.
Earth and Water, Fire and Air I invoke the Goddess there! This night we are Between the Worlds To celebrate the year unfurled!
HP Earth and Water, Fire and Sky I invoke the God on high This night we are Between the Worlds To celebrate the year unfurled!
The corners shall be called thusly, that all may hear, but shall not be called until the HPS reaches that corner on her circumambulation.
EAST O Guardians of the Eastern Tower, Airy ones of healing power I do summon, stir and call you See these rites and guard this circle!
Come to us and heed our call! By the Power that made us all; By the Power that blesses Thee: Come to us; and Blessed Be!
SOUTH Oh fiery ones of Southern Power Thus I invite you to this tower I do summon, stir and call you See these rites and guard this circle!
Come to us and heed our call! By the Power that made us all; By the Power that blesses Thee: Come to us; and Blessed Be!
WEST Western ones of water's flow Help to guard us here below I do summon, stir and call you See these rites and guard this circle!
Come to us and heed our call! By the Power that made us all; By the Power that blesses Thee: Come to us; and Blessed Be!
NORTH Earthen ones of Northern fame Bless and guard our Power's fane I do summon, stir and call you See these rites and guard this circle!
Come to us and heed our call! By the Power that made us all; By the Power that blesses Thee: Come to us; and Blessed Be!
The HPS shall move to each corner, and say, following each corner's crying as she moves to the next:
HPS So I cast and consecrate This Circle of the small and great: By Fin and Feather, Leaf and Tree, By Rock and Earth, by Land and Sea, By Fire and Water, Earth and Air, By the Lord, and Lady Fair! By Love and Joy and Work and Play, All things harmful cast away! By lightning's flash, and rain's soft fall, By the Power that made us all; By the Power that blesses Thee: (Cast the Circle: Blessed be!)
On her return to the first corner she shall change the last line above, and say:
The Circle's cast; and Blessed Be!
The callers of the corners shall return their tools to the altar, and then shall join the circle at their corners.
Here begins the Beltane Mystery
BARD or GREEN MAN Thus I invoke the Lady White To come to us this sacred night. By Fin and Feather, Leaf and Tree, I show you a Mystery!
The Maiden shall stand beside the HP, who shall hold a wooden sword. The Bard/Green Man shall approach them, also carrying a wooden sword, and shall, in mime, challenge the HP. They shall strike their swords together in three sets of three blows, then Bard/Green Man shall strike the HP, with the last blow of his sword, who shall fall as if dead. (Note: This can be played as a Morris Dance, if so wished.) If no Maiden and Bard/Green Man are used, then the above combat may be eliminated, and the HP and HPS shall enact the Mystery. The HPS' part shall then be spoken by the participants.
The Maiden moves to the East. The Bard/Green Man moves to the North.
HPS Cunning and art she did not lack But aye his whistle would fetch her back!
MAIDEN Oh, I shall go into a hare with sorrow, sighing and mickle care And I shall go in the Lady's Name Aye, until I be fetched hame!
BARD/GREEN MAN Hare, take heed of a swift greyhound Will harry thee all these fields around For here come I in the Lady's Name All but for to fetch thee hame!
The Maiden moves to the South. The Bard/Green Man moves to the East.

A Basic Love Spell
Be Careful How You Use These Anon
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Take three cords or strings of various, pleasing pastel colors- perhaps pink, red, and green- and braid them tightly together. Firmly tie a knot near one end of the braid, thinking of your need for love.
Next, tie another knot, and another, until you have tied seven knots. Wear or carry the cord with you until you find your love.
After that, keep the cord in a safe place, or give to one of the elements- burn and scatter the ashes in the ocean or in a stream. ICQ: 264870005

Beltane Ritual
Heather Johnson
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Coven walks in. Women have baskets of flower petals, and the men have branches with bells. Coven walks deosil three times sprinkling flower petals and shaking the branches. Each time around they chant:
Coven: "Blessed Be this sacred ground as we walk once (twice, thrice) round"
Covenors take their places, High Priest and Priestess by the altar and the rest at the four corners. Starting in the east, each person calls for the elements and salutes them with the proper symbol.
East: "Guardians, spirits, elementals, and powers of the east and of air, we ask your guidance and protection at our circle this day. Join us in celebrating this sacred season and the Lord and Lady."
South: "Guardians, spirits, elementals, and powers of the south and of fire, we ask your guidance and protection at our circle this day. Join us in celebrating this sacred season and the Lord and Lady."
West: "Guardians, spirits, elementals, and powers of the west and of water, we ask your guidance and protection at our circle this day. Join us in celebrating this sacred season and the Lord and Lady."
North: "Guardians, spirits, elementals, and powers of the north and of earth, we ask your guidance and protection at our circle this day. Join us in celebrating this sacred season and the Lord and Lady."
High Priest and Priestess calls forth the lord and lady. As each is called a candle is lit to represent them.
High Priestess: "Tonight is the lusty eve of May. Blessed be the fertile Goddess"
High Priest: "Tonight is the lusty eve of May. Blessed be the Horned God"
Coven: "Tonight is the lusty eve of May. Blessed be the sacred marriage that manifests all creation."
Hand Maiden: "We gather on this blessed day so that we might celebrate Beltane, the start of the fertile summer season."
Hand Master: "In this moment between time, we come to praise the bountiful Goddess..."
Hand Maiden: "...and her God consort..."
Hand Master: "...Who unite today in sacred marriage. We wish to give thanks, and to feel our selves a part of the relentlessly turning wheel of life, death, and rebirth."
The Hand Maiden and the Hand master walk to the alter and picks up the chalice and athame. They carry these to the High Priest and Priestess. The High Priestess holds high the chalice.
High Priestess: "Behold the womb of the Goddess. The well spring from which all life flows."
The High Priest holds high the athame.
High Priest: "Behold the phallus of the God. The fertilizing principal of the universe."
High Priest and Priestess: "Blessed be the divine life force in all it’s many forms"
Hand Maiden helps the High Priestess to the floor. The priestess can lie with her legs open or closed, which ever is more comfortable. She will hold the chalice with both hands over her belly. The priest will stand next to her knees, or in between them again which ever is more comfortable. Everyone take a moment to visualize life energy flowing into the priest and priestess.
High Priest: "Blessed be you, my Goddess, my holy bride of heaven and earth. Let me unite with you in the ancient rite of sacred marriage."
High Priestess: "Blessed be you, my God, my holy groom of heaven and earth. Let me unite with you in the ancient ritual of sacred marriage."
High Priest and Priestess: "As we become one, we are one. As we are one, we become one."
The priest kneels and brings the blade down into the chalice. Allow a few moments to feel love and life flow between the priest and priestess. When the priest and priestess are done, they motion to the hand maiden and master to help them up. For the rest of the ritual the priest and priestess will hold hands to symbolize their continual union.
Hand Maiden: "By this act of love, all life comes to be."
Hand Master: "By this act of faith, we proclaim our belief in our place on the eternal cycle of life."
Hand Master and Maiden: "Blessed be the Great Rite. The Lord and Lady reign eternal."
Now is the time for wish making. On a piece of paper (provided) write what you would like to come in to your life. Keep it simple and direct. Once everyone has their wishes written down, chant three times:
Coven: "Love and light and laughter be, Lord and lady bring to me. As above, so below. Make my prosperity grow."
The coven tosses their wishes in to the fire. Dismiss the elements and the Lord and lady.
